Have any friend who just came back from their four year vacation on Mars? Or maybe your grandma still don’t get why Facebook is such a big company. Rather than explaining everything about the social network, you can simply screen this video.
The video was made by an online investment platform Kapitall. This 150 second video presents some eye popping stats about the social network in a pleasing animated infographic format.
A little disingenuous thing about the video is that it suggests you to easily get into the action whenever Facebook has its IPO. The IPO is likely coming this summer, but it might be delayed due to the billion dollar Instagram acquisition. Actually, you still can’t join the initial frenzy unless you’re an employee, celebrity, the deal’s underwriters, or a celebrity.
However, we can say that this is the best summaries about the social media frenzy so far. If YouTube tried to make a time machine video to capture our connected age, this video is worth to be included.

Last Friday marked the first time Nokia ousted from their position at the top of the cellphone maker, according to Strategy Analytics. Samsung has taken their crown as the leading shipper of mobile phone in the world. The key of their turnover is they keep speeding up while Nokia slowing down.
Seeing a goliath falls down is always interesting, just like when we see RIM, Palm, and HP before. However, seeing Nokia falling down feels like a different type of interesting. We can say that they created the mobile industry. For me, their biggest mistake is selling Symbian and not selling devices on their new OS, Windows Phone, until later 2011. The other smartphone player has taken a few leap forward when Nokia just start the journey.
Samsung, on the other hand, has done three things simultaneously: innovating, marketing, and emulating. We can see the result in the past year. Galaxy Note sold 5 million units only in 5 months. It creates a new “phablet” category for everyone to join but again, they’ve started it before anyone else.
If Nokia doesn’t change their plan soon, it’s hard to see them in the top spot once again. Or worse, they might slip to number three.

Mike Rogers, the author of the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act a.k.a CISPA is pretty confident the bill has enough support in the house to pass the vote Friday. Opposition is coming from privacy groups and concerned Internet users, but he still believes in the bill. “This isn’t about the votes, we’re well passed that,” said Rogers on a media conference call.
CISPA is actually designed to allow private businesses and government to share information about cybersecurity threats. The advocates claim that it will increase the government’s ability to fight cyberattacks. However, the opposition said CISPA might destroy the notion of online privacy by allowing firms to hand their personal data into the intelligence community.
Two separate non-CISPA threads are currently sitting on the front page of Reddit, where a lot of early anti-SOPA activity began to rise. The fresh news from CISPA comes after a week of protest by Internet privacy groups such as Electronic Frontier Foundation which failed to gain the traction that anti-SOPA movement found before that bill was left to fight in the legislative.
Will you tolerate CISPA’s amendments? Sound off on the comment box below.
